Visitor Visa

The visitor class is prescribed as a class of persons may become temporary residents, and if he is issued the authorization to enter or remain in Canada then he is a visitor, who is subject to the conditions imposed under Acts and Regulations of Canadian immigration.

‘Visitors are persons who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, and are legally authorized to enter Canada to:

  • Visit Canada on holiday (vacation),
  • Visit family,
  • Conduct business, etc.

Visitors are restricted in length of stay and subject to various conditions.’

Visitor visa can be applied online (processed more quickly) or on paper. Medical exam is not needed if you are visiting for six months or less (with some exceptions). Medical exam can be given once the visa officer provides the instructions to do so by the authorized physicians. Visitors are not allowed to work or study in Canada unless they are authorized to do so.

In many cases, a work or study permit will be required.

The validity is decided by the CBSA officer at the Port of Entry. If the date is not provided, it is usually the six months. A person will become temporary resident if officer is satisfied that the person meets all necessary obligations and is not inadmissible in any manner.

You must obtain a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) before your departure. You cannot obtain one upon arrival in Canada.

Temporary Resident Visa costs CAD 100. For the family, maximum cost is CAD500.

Visa could be single or multiple entry.
