Visitors are restricted in length of stay and subject to various conditions.

Temporary residents include Visitors (require Visitor visa), students (require study permit), workers (require work permit) and Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) holders. These persons must leave Canada by the end of the period authorized for their stay and may re-enter Canada only if their authorization provides re-entry.

The validity of temporary visa is decided by the CBSA officer at the Port of Entry. If the date is not provided, it is usually the six months. A person will become temporary resident if officer is satisfied that the person meets all necessary obligations and is not inadmissible in any manner.

One must obtain a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) before departing for Canada. This visa cannot be obtained upon arrival in Canada, unless you are from visa exempted countries.
